An hours drive from Como, Milan and Verona you’ll find one of Italy’s most overlooked cities. Bergamo’s Citta Alta (upper town) is surrounded by medieval city walls, with bakeries, cake shops, rustic pubs and modern restaurants all spilling out into the maze of cobbled streets. A funicular takes you up from the new town to the old, but take the second funicular up for even better views of the Citta Alta.
